New York City is the concrete jungle where dreams are made of and because of Dance Dreams, I had the opportunity to spend a whole week, in July, in the heart of Times Square. Our days were filled with dance and exploring the city. Have you ever gone to a city before and just thought “why do I not live here?” because that was my first question when I arrived in New York.
Walking up those stairs from Penn Station, entering the insanely crowded streets of Times Square, I’ve never felt happier to be somewhere. Every theatre we passed was a show I’ve wanted to see, passing Hamilton, Chicago, Aladdin, and Phantom of the Opera, just to name a few. At that moment passing those theaters, I realized I needed to be here. There is so much excitement and creativity around every street corner.
We saw two Broadway shows and took two masterclasses with industry professionals, at Pearl Studios. We saw the Radio City Rockettes New York Spectacular and toured Radio City Music Hall. I was in awe walking around Radio City and seeing the Rockettes. I have wanted to see this since I was three years old! We also performed a flash mob right in front of Rockefeller Center. We dined at some of the coolest spots in the city. Being able to talk to people in the dance and theatre industry was such an eye opener.
There is so much to consider with a career in dance, but whatever your passion take it and never let it die. That is what will take you far. I have been to NYC before, but not like this. Dance Dreams immersed me in the dance and theatre world, and it showed me what endless possibilities NYC offers.
I am so grateful for the opportunity Dance Dreams provided. If you have the chance take this trip to New York City, take it! It is a once in a lifetime opportunity.
